Ba Ria – Vung Tau Proposes Upgrading Phu My Town to City Status
After Vang Tau City and Ba Ria City, Phu My Town in Bà Rịa – Vung Tau Province is set to become a city by 2025 and be recognized as a Class II urban area.
On the morning of June 25, the People’s Council of Bà Rịa – Vũng Tàu Province held its 21st session (special session) to approve seven resolutions, including three related to economic and budget matters and four concerning legal affairs.
During the session, the provincial People’s Council agreed to establish new wards within Phú Mỹ Town and upgrade it to Phú Mỹ City.
The future Phú Mỹ City will consist of 10 administrative units, including eight urban wards and two suburban communes. The existing five wards (Hắc Dịch, Mỹ Xuân, Phú Mỹ, Phước Hòa, and Tân Phước) will be joined by three newly established wards (Tóc Tiên, Tân Hòa, and Tân Hải). The suburban areas will include Châu Pha and Sông Xoài Communes.
Bà Rịa – Vũng Tàu Province aims to develop Phú Mỹ into a city with strengths in industry and seaports, positioning it as a key economic center of the province and region. The city is envisioned as a sustainable port-industrial urban area, serving as a crucial gateway for economic exchange in the Southern Key Economic Zone, Southeast Asia, and international markets.
According to the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Council, establishing the wards of Tóc Tiên, Tân Hòa, and Tân Hải while upgrading Phú Mỹ to a city—based on its existing natural area and population size—will bring significant benefits to the urban development of Phú Mỹ.
According to experts, major real estate markets in Vietnam are closely linked to key factors such as industrial zone development, seaports, or tourism and service industries. Among these, industrial growth is often the driving force behind an increase in mechanical population, leading to the formation of bustling residential areas.
As an industrial and seaport hub of Bà Rịa – Vũng Tàu, Phú Mỹ holds a strategic role in the province’s economic development. It has been designated to focus on five key economic sectors: industry, seaports, port logistics services, tourism, and high-tech agriculture.
As a result, Phú Mỹ is attracting a significant number of migrant workers, particularly highly skilled professionals and engineers. According to recent surveys, industrial zones in Phú Mỹ are currently home to over 15,000 foreign experts and senior managers. This factor is expected to drive future demand in the real estate market.
